MB: Hmmm The Rhetoric Doesn't Match The Policy

Author: Colin Craig 2014/03/27

Last year the CTF exposed how hospital cafeterias across Manitoba had lost millions selling chocolate bars, doughnuts and soft drinks to the public and staff.

When asked about the losses, then Minister of Health Theresa Oswald said hospitals were expected to use money from gift shops and parking to pay for it. CTV news noted:

"Oswald said the current cafeteria losses do get covered. Hospitals are expected to use revenues from things like parking and gift shops to cover any cafeteria deficits."

So I asked the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority about such an 'expectation' and they told me they have no evidence of any such guidelines, rules or expectations - click here to see their response.

Weird. It almost seems like the government's response was just made up on the fly to make the issue go away...
